Now that we know it’s not Callie and Arizona tying the knot on Grey’s Anatomy – by now you’ve surely heard about Cristina and Owen – what’s in store for Calzona this year?
Let’s just say it’s shaping up to be a crowded situation.
What brings Amelia and Derek – and two ABC shows – together this fall?
Arizona decides to move in with Callie, according to EW, and of course, Torres is sharing an apartment with Cristina … who’s become the anti-Cristina and is marrying Owen.
That’s not the only obstacle, either. Creator Shonda Rhimes reveals that “Some stuff happens with their careers that’s going to take them in opposite directions possibly.”
Shifting gears, we’ve got some dish on the Grey’s Anatomy-Private Practice crossover involving Derek’s sister Amelia as well. What brings the two Shepherds together?
“Amelia goes to visit Derek in the third episode of Grey’s Anatomy,” Rhimes reveals, adding that in the finale, “Derek got shot and he hasn’t been returning her phone calls.”
“He’s never returned her phone calls. And what I love about this particular episode is that it really illuminates Derek Shepherd. Remember: Derek’s father was shot when they were kids – something that both Amelia and Derek witnessed.”
“For both of them, Derek’s shooting brings up all these memories of that. You also get to see the two Shepherd neurosurgeons operating together, which I think is badass.”
We’d have to agree. Are you excited for the Private Practice crossover event, or tired of them at this point? What are your thoughts on Calzona? Share!

Grey’s Anatomy Spoilers: Calzona and Crossover Updates
It’s worked more than once for ABC, with Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice.
Now, The CW will trot out its first-ever crossover episode.
On October 12, a pair of One Tree Hill characters will appear on Life Unexpected. Here’s how it will go down:
Look for Haley and Mia to travel perform at a Portland music festival sponsored by Cate’s radio station, as “Haley and Cate are surprised to learn that they share a similar back story [as] mothers,” said a network source.
One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected will air alongside each other on Tuesday nights this fall, starting September 14. What do you think of this crossover idea?
Awesome? Or really, really awesome?

Coming to The CW: A Life Unexpected/One Tree Hill Crossover Episode
Viewers were treated to the second part of this week’s crossover between Eureka and Warehouse 13 last night.
The episode, titled “Crossing Over,” was very enjoyable and I hope this isn’t the last time the two casts meet.
While the overall episode was well done, and Claudia rocked (as always), it felt like her visit was squeezed in to the story. If you look at the overall story, you could easily have removed her from the episode and other than the mine field scene being played out differently (Carter would have found Fargo standing on the first mine), everything would have continued as it did.
While Fargo’s visit was the actual cause of the issue on Warehouse 13 this week, this end of the crossover felt more like a requirement to add Claudia somewhere in the story more than having fun with the character.
For example, it would have been fun if the lighter that Grant had turned out to be an artifact and was the cause of the issue. They showed him using it several times, so the setup was there.
Fans were treated to a crossover between Eureka and Warehouse 13 on this week’s episode of the latter, titled “13.1.”
I was a bit concerned when I first saw Fargo working on the computer system that this installment had been written before he was in charge of GD and it was going to cause a strange hole in the story when Claudia goes to visit Eureka at the end of the week.
However, my mind was put at ease when Fargo not only mentioned that he was running GD but mentioned his Girlfriend was “no more” in reference to the fact they had never met in this timeline.
While I am super happy that Claudia finally figured out how to be a normal girl around Todd, I am really sad that Todd dumped Claudia simply because she got tangled up at work. I had really hoped him suddenly appearing in the town was going to be more integral to the larger storyline or maybe he had some interesting back story that we would learn along the way.
I suppose this could still happen, but given how quickly and “normally” he broke up with Claudia, I suspect he was written in more as a filler romantic interest than a long term one.
Further, I am guessing that the breakup is part of why Claudia goes to Eureka to see Fargo and maybe they will start a long-distance cross-show romance, which could be a lot of fun for future visits to each other.
While we are discussing Claudia and Fargo, does anyone know what was in the crate they hid in that Claudia would not even let Fargo say the name out loud? I re-watched the scene about three times and I could not pick out anything specific from the moan or the glow that would give me a hint as to what was in there. Usually the show is good about giving little hooks to figure it out. Not this time. I am stumped.
I liked the character of Hugo Miller, all three versions, the sane one from the end, the crazy one in the middle and Hugo the artificial one.
As predicted, an all-Shepherd crossover is in the works at Shondaland.
Grey’s Anatomy’s Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Private Practice’s Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) will be repairing their relationship in the upcoming season of Grey’s.
Caterina, who was just promoted to series regular on Private Practice, will appear in the third episode of Grey’s this season, Shonda Rhimes confirmed to TV Guide.
The premise is simple: Amelia Shepherd goes to Seattle to reconcile with her brother, Derek. The two Shepherds have not been on speaking terms since Amelia turned to drugs while grieving the death of her father, who was shot and killed in front of her and Derek.
Derek and Amelia will reunite this fall.
“Family is family,” Scorsone says. “Regardless of the strife and tension and drama between the family members, there’s a connection that is so deep. Obviously Amelia has a lot of emotion surrounding Derek and that relationship and all the things they’ve been through together.”
In an interesting twist, Amelia will be reluctant to head to Seattle to see her brother, though she’ll get a supportive push from none other than Addison (Kate Walsh) to reconcile.
“There’s a lot of unresolved emotions surrounding that whole relationship. Everyone can relate to that fear of confronting situations that may result in rejection,” says Scorsone.
Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice both return Thursday, September 23. What are your thoughts on the Shepherds’ relationship and the upcoming crossover? Discuss!

Caterina Scorsone to Guest Star on Grey’s Anatomy
Private Practice has done the obvious and promoted Caterina Scorsone, who plays Dr. Amelia Shepherd, little sister of Grey’s Anatomy’s Derek, to series regular status.
“It’s so fantastic for so many reasons,” Scorsone told TV Guide. “Everyone is generous and fantastic, so to know that’s going to be my home for a while is pretty nice.”
Amelia was introduced at the tail end of Season Three, when she clashed with the Oceanside Wellness doctors over whether she could save one of their patient’s lives.
“She’s very complex,” says Scorsone, who actually went to medical school before deciding she would rather play doctor than be a doctor. “She inspires a whole rainbow of emotions in all the people around her. She’s lovable and annoying at the same time.”
“She’s also tough and fragile at the same time.”
Scorsone has yet to work with Patrick Dempsey, who plays her on-screen brother, but is itching to, and it’s only a matter of time. Why write her as his sister otherwise?
“It is a little bit intimidating,” she admits.
“Just kowing how passionate people are, wanting to honor their expectations in the relationship with Derek, who is so deeply a part of people’s journey on this show.”
Executive producer Shonda Rhimes says the writers were already discussing a Shepherd-centric crossover. “We’ve absolutely been talking about that,” adds Scorsone.
The 28-year-old notes: “Based on the history we’ve already established between Amelia and Derek, there definitely has to be some sort of encounter at some point.”
As for the Season 4 premiere of Private Practice, which the cast is currently shooting, Scorsone says the story will pick up a few weeks in the aftermath of Dell’s death.
“Everyone’s had a little time to process and grieve,” she says.
What do you think of Amelia becoming a permanent fixture in SoCal? How do you think the crossover of Big and Little McDreamy should happen? Discuss!

Here at Crushable, we focus mainly on pop culture in America. So we’re interested in finding out what people are into abroad, besides the typical crossover phenomenons (George Clooney, Madonna and Justin Bieber). Our British friend Bryan is not all up in entertainment-y stuff, so he asked his plugged-in sister to weigh in via email. Here’s her verbatim feedback from across the pond:
Celebrities: “Cheryl Cole (most women and men are obsessed with her), Simon Cowell (massively popular, and seems to be gaining more popularity all the time), James Corden has become really popular since co-writing and starring in ‘Gavin and Stacey’. He is currently presenting a TV show almost every night after the world cup games. He is very funny and proven himself to be a good presenter also.”
TV shows: Gavin and Stacey remains a very popular TV show, although they have already shown the last series. Soap Operas such as Coronation Street, Eastenders, Emerdale and Hollyoaks are all very popular with people young and old. X-Factor is still probably the most anticipated show of the year. Dancing On Ice is watched by millions as is Strictly Come Dancing. They are both competitions involving Celebrities. Big brother is still fairly popular but is now in its final year.
Movies: Avatar!! I’m not hot on movies I’m afraid.
Music: Pixie Lott, Lady Gaga, Black eyed Peas, Kings of Leon, Dizzee Rascal!
Fashion: Anything goes really! Skinny Jeans are still very much the thing. Florals are in right now. Gladiator style sandals and gladiator style heels are the thing to wear on your feet if you’re a girl. False eye lashes are very popular. MAXI DRESSES in a big way!!!! Boyfriend style cardies, jumpers and trousers are still worn by almost everyone who has a bit of style. Leggings and Jeggings too!!!”
Thanks Bryan’s sister! We heart you. In case you — like us! — had no clue as to the existence of Cheryl Cole (aka the Most Famous Woman in England) here is a link to her IMDB page. She is like a modern-day Audrey Hepburn, and is reportedly dating Derek Hough from Dancing With the Stars.
Give her time. Soon she pull a Simon Cowell, land the biggest TV show on Earth and become a household name/international superstah.

With Idina Menzel’s Shelby having adopted Quinn’s baby on the season finale of Glee, there’s a good chance this actress will return to the Fox smash this fall.
But will she bring her famous husband with her?
Taye Diggs was asked that question by Kristin Dos Santos of E! News and replied: “I would love to do it. I love the show; I’m a straight up fan. It’s so enjoyable to watch and to see a show for people who to sing and dance. Plus, I love how they integrated Idina into the show.”
Paging Shonda Rhimes: Is a Private Practice/Glee crossover in the works?
Meanwhile, producers have said that they “definitely” want Jonathan Groff to reprise his role as Jesse St. James on season two of the show.
Might Vocal Adrenaline need a new coach in light of Shelby’s maternal responsibilities? Let’s hope so!

The 2009-10 season is in the books, but the summer break gives us a chance to offer up critiques on various programs. TV Fanatic will grade and review as many as we can.
Most recently, we took on shows ranging from The Good Wife to Gossip Girl and 90210. Today, we’re on to Grey’s Anatomy, a series we’re finding uniquely difficult to assess.
The show is, to a point, a victim of its own success, and the standards it set over its first few years. Our B- grade seems low, since there is still so much we love about Grey’s.
We just believe the show can be that much better.
What did we think of the sixth season of the ABC medical drama? Who was its best character? Did it meet expectations? Where are we headed next? Read on and comment.
Best character: We’ve always loved Meredith, Derek, Cristina and Bailey so much, let’s focus on two that really developed this season – Alex and Mark. Both had some terrific story arcs that showed new facets of their personalities, which proved more complex than you might have originally thought. Most, if not all of the characters shined at times, but these two stood out.
Season Six brought out a different side of Mark Sloan.
Worst character: Izzie. Truthfully, this is more a critique of the actress who played her and how the situation was handled, which was somewhat out of the writers’ hands. Izzie recovered, only to be fired, come back and leave again for good? As viewers, we felt as jerked around as Alex. To a lesser degree, we could’ve done without some of the Mercy West crew.
Best use of guest stars: Jason George beats out some worthy competition for this one. He was awesome, and easy on the eyes, as Ben, Bailey’s anesthesiologist love.
Best episode: “Give Peace a Chance.” The season finale was great and there were many strong weeks, but we absolutely loved this Derek-centric episode from early in the season. It was one of Patrick Dempsey’s best performances and a moving story to boot.
Best storyline: The maturation of Meredith and the evolution of married life with Derek is a joy to watch. While we wouldn’t call Cristina and Owen’s struggles a joy, Sandra Oh and Kevin McKidd are so terrific that they’re no less compelling. All things Calzona. The introduction of Sloan Jr., the more we got to know her and how she affected him. The mesmerizing finale.
Worst storyline: While no single story line bothered us or made our eyes roll, there was a bit too much experimenting at times: A swarm of Mercy West doctors all at once, flashbacks, crossovers, episodes told from 12 perspectives, characters starring one week and barely seen the next. If the show lacked one thing for parts of what was overall a fine season, it was consistency.
At its best when: The core characters we love blend humor with emotion as they grapple with real-life professional and relationship situations we can relate to.
At its worst when: There’s too much going on, or the action feels forced by “game-changing” events (sometimes necessary, but can become overkill as well).
Hopes for 2010-11: Grey’s Anatomy is still a great show, and one we loyally watch for characters, the writing, the medical and personal story lines – all of it.
However …
Despite our appreciation for all the serious, dramatic, funny and romantic action the show brings, there has been a shift in its direction, which to a point is inevitable.
As years pass, new characters are introduced that viewers don’t take kindly to, since they’ve become attached to the original characters and are resistant to change.
Also, some of the episodes start to feel a bit repetitive, whether they’re relationship-driven or over-the-top sweeps-week extravaganzas like shootings or disasters.
Teddy and Jackson: Subtraction by addition?
The writers can return Grey’s to its past glory by remembering what made it successful, focusing on the core cast and keeping some people and plots more peripheral.
Teddy’s past with Owen, Mark’s daughter, April’s obsession with Derek and other stories were all fine on their own merit, but detract from what the show does best.
The cast has just gotten so big that there is no room for all the characters at times, and some of these sudden declarations seem to absolutely come out of nowhere.
Kim Raver and Jesse Williams are great, but the writers need to decide where the show is going and what their priorities are to keep things more focused next year.
Otherwise, history is destined to repeat itself, and we’ll have another season lacking in continuity and feeling scattered, with occasional huge accidents to spice it up.
Enjoyable? Certainly. But it could be better.
Overall grade: B-.
