Season 4 Behind the Scenes

It looks like the embattled Jenny Humphrey’s return to Gossip Girl this fall involves (shocker) a fashion event and (another shocker!) a brawl with Blair Waldorf!

Jenny reappearance is directly connected to Tim Gunn’s cameo, EW reports, as Blair permits her nemesis to return to the scene of her last crime (Manhattan).

Of course, the return is short-lived.

THE SHOWDOWN: In one of the Gossip Girl set photos we posted earlier, Jenny appears to square off with Blair as Chuck looks on. Could be the scene we’re describing here.

Lil J will be in the Big Apple just long enough for her to interview for a job with Gunn at Parsons. But what might have been a triumphant return will go awry.

Let’s just say the Raccoon inadvertently gets caught up in Chuck and Blair’s latest drama, and the pent-up tension boils over at (what else) a big fancy party.

It seems like Chuck has amnesia in the promos for the Gossip Girl episodes in Paris. Please tell me that isn’t true. — Jill
MICKEY: It’s more accurate to say that Chuck wants to forget certain things. Mostly though, Gossip Girl’s petit voyage is inspired by the immortal Spin Doctors, in that there are two princes, both of whom are royally screwed when it comes to their feelings about Blair.

SEASON FOUR KICKS OFF IN THE CITY OF LIGHTS! OMP! — Blair (Leighton Meester) has spent a fabulous summer in Paris without realizing her former love, Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick), has been shot. As much as Blair tries to distract herself from the pain Chuck caused her, his mysterious appearance in Paris with a beautiful new woman (guest star Clémence Poésy) will force both of them to face what happened. Meanwhile, a newly single Serena (Blake Lively) has been enjoying a Parisian summer of love with boys, Blair and Balenciaga as she tries to avoid the inevitable decision about which of her two long-time beaus, Dan or Nate (Penn Badgley and Chace Crawford), she should return to. Back on the Upper East Side, Nate meets an intriguing girl, Juliet (guest star Katie Cassidy, “Melrose Place”), who helps him realize that his summer of sexual conquests with the help of Chuck’s little black book was his way of avoiding his unresolved feelings for Serena. Meanwhile, Dan’s (Penn Badgley) baby mama drama continues with Georgina (guest star Michelle Trachtenberg). Finally, the van der Woodsen apartment is buzzing with activity as the “Fashion’s Night Out” event is planned. Jessica Szohr, Kelly Rutherford and Matthew Settle also star. Mark Piznarski directed the episode written by executive producers Joshua Safran and Stephanie Savage (#401).

Gossip Girl Season 4 Promo – Vive le Chuck

In a world where prima donna stars are a dime a dozen, it’s nice to see one grateful for what she has. Leighton Meester says she’s still thrilled with her role on Gossip Girl.

The actress, who plays Blair Waldorf, praised the writers for creating the “noble” character: “I am living my dream and having the time of my life!” she told Cosmopolitan.

“I’m so lucky because I get to do that all day long and play a character who has a lot of noble qualities as well. I am really lucky she is such a well-written character.”

She added that her own youth was different from Blair’s despite having also grown up in New York for part of her childhood. Leighton, who was born in Florida, says:

“[It was] the complete opposite [of Blair], to be honest. I had lived in NYC before but not the Upper East Side – it was in the Upper West Side, which was very different.”

“When I was a teenager I was in a public high school. I certainly was not popular by any means, and I didn’t have a car or a lot of money, so it was very different.”

We doubt those are issues for her now, but it’s good to see she hasn’t changed and has an appreciation for how far she’s come. What’s not to love about Leighton?

Ausiello: The bitch is back and more powerful than ever. “Blair at NYU was like throwing a fish far, far out of water,” says exec producer Josh Schwartz. “I think [this season] you’ll see Blair with her power back, with her swagger back, back in her game, but still troubled by thoughts of Mr. Bass. The Chuck/Blair relationship—whether they’re together or not—will always be a huge drive to the show emotionally.”
